How often do you picture Jesus in your mind, clearly and completely? How often do you say a long prayer, concentrating fully? Do you go to confession or some other group service, and participate for an hour or two? Then what happens? What happens after you have spent a good bit of time in prayer? That's right...you have a conflicting thought. Something that does not sync up with Christianity.
This is a massive, MASSIVE problem! Almost everyone goes through it. At least that seems to be the truth. Maybe there are folks who don't go through it. But for the people I chat with and minister to, it seems to be the case almost every time.
Why does this happen? What's the cause? What's the solution? Well, I can tell you what the cause is, but you have probably already heard of Adam and Eve. What's the solution then? The solution is much simpler than you might imagine. Here is what seems to work for me.
At a certain point in my life, when my thoughts were REALLY conflicting, I realized that there is a kind of prayer that works to fix that. It is called meditative prayer. You lie in bed, or in the tub, or in a hammock, and you focus on nothing except for the never-ceasing Light of Christ. Literally...just one big ball of light. Sound silly? It works. It really does. All you have to do is try this once or twice and you will see what I mean. After a little practice, you will be spending perfect time with God. And when I mean time, I mean three or four hours sometimes. Just you, awake, eyes closed, in a relaxing place, focused on God. It is a beautiful experience, and over time it will flush out conflicting thoughts.
