The John Cusack effect

I've seen lots of movies in my life. More than enough. There was a theatre in town that sold tickets for $1. The flicks might have been a few weeks old...but they were still fun. Over time I have discovered that one of my favorite actors is John Cusack. Why? Well, he bares a striking resemblence to Jesus...and I'll explain why.

In Cusack movies, he is always a good guy. If there's a movie where he's a villain, I have not seen it. Right now I'm watching Grosse Point Blank, and he plays a hitman...yet he is still the good guy. He's so good he cannot even be bad when he is supposed to be bad.

Lots of you will remember Say Anything, where there is that emotional scene where Cusack holds the boombox in the air outside his girlfriend's house. That's possibly one of the most memorable movie moments ever. The list goes on and on. There's a reason for that: Cusack is fun to watch! So is his sister, Joan. They are both charismatic fun people. You watch because you feel compelled to!

I have never seen a more charismatic person than Jesus. He surpasses all expectations! He is so incredible that other religious people from other walks cannot even believe His power when they first hear about Him. Why? They are not accustomed to such quality! Their benchmarks...Mohammed...Buddha...take your pick...are nowhere close to Jesus on the miracle scale. To perceive Him...really feel Him...blows them away sometimes. That's why as Christians we must always try and keep things clear and simple for them.

Jesus....Cusack....they are durable! Always useful...always interesting. They are reliable resources for this place we call Earth. Maybe Cusack won't produce a miracle...but he can make you feel good when your day has been lame.

Look for those kinds of folks in your life. Recognize who is reliable and who isn't. Let your instincts provide the path. Ask Jesus to light up the way toward people that walk like He does. The more you ask...the faster they will arrive!
