My daughter started hitting me today, and she would not stop. What did I do? I put her over my knee.
Ya know, God has no bigger desire than to look at us and be proud. In fact, it is His number one goal. He wants to look at humanity and see His Son in us. He wants to be able to see through the crust of garbage that we’ve piled on ourselves over the years. He really really does. Does He succeed?
My daughter started her rebellious behavior as soon as we picked her up from school. There is no big explanation. We asked her a few questions, and when she replied in a haughty tone, we told her there would be consequences. This time she must not have believed us. I’ve never spanked my little girl. In fact, I don’t even think I have it in me. But you know what? I’m not above using a little fear to get my point across.
Have you ever stood next to someone who was accidentally killed? Have you ever dodged death to the point where you said, wow....a few more inches or feet....and that would have been it! Fear works. It really does. I’ve noticed that most people who live to a ripe old age have developed a healthy attitude toward fear. They understand that it works as a balancing tool. A little fear can go a long way. Sometimes you don’t have to pull out the weapon, if your enemy knows its locked and loaded.
My little girl had never hit Dad before. And today she managed to get a few good licks in before I placed her in the spanking position. How long did it take to get my point across? Not very long. She was fine hitting me, but flip it around and it does not feel so good. I never even came close to spanking her. But the idea of what was on the way worked just as it should.
It would be nice if every life situation was like that. It would be nice if that crazy Libyan leader would have gotten the point earlier. Maybe now that he’ll have to spend decades rebuilding his country, the point was delivered. Maybe my little girl won’t hit me again.
I like my odds.
