One of Satan's really powerful tools: apathy

Apathetic people are everywhere. Sometimes I even find myself feeling kind of apathetic. But once again, as with other areas of life, this is something that you really have to watch for. Apathy can ruin your life.

Something I have noticed in my short time is how spouses can become apathetic about their marriage. Years and years go by, and spouses just become part of the window dressing of life. The only real weapon we have against this kind of curse is our Christian community, both locally and online. Other people who have to battle the same thing are usually full of advice about how to deal with it. And obviously ministers/priests talk about this kind of thing constantly, and usually have some good wisdom to share.

Work apathy may be the worst kind, since a lot of people do the same boring work every day for longer than they should. I recently heard an estimate that said people should change jobs every three to four years, in order to grow and stay current with their profession. I don't know about you, but I'm going on two years without a job, so if I find something soon I may hang onto it for dear life. But I already know that in a few years I'll want something else. So I'll have to lean on Jesus for the courage I'll need to change jobs.

Apathy toward God. Maybe you've been a believer for so long, you feel that there is nothing more to gain, learn, experience. I'm about thirty years in myself, discounting my first several years of life. At this point I consider myself more of a teacher than a learning believer. I have been through everything so many different times in so many different forms. Right now I focus more on spreading the faith than extending my knowledge of it. That is what I suggest to folks with this problem. Start leading instead of following. Take your knowledge and build it into your relationships with other people. Growing in that way is probably your best bet.
