The money game and the Jesus game

Its a big deal. You might not think it is, but it is.

Do any of you know how much money churches pull in every Sunday? Or what the salaries of all the workers at the church are? How about the pure number of folks it takes to count the money? Or the reason and method used for collecting donations? Well....start analyzing it.

I’m Catholic. Some of you may know that, some don’t. I don’t broadcast it because I consider myself a brother to anyone who believes in Christ. As a Catholic, all of this information is available to me as a member of a designated parish. I can literally walk into the office at any given time and receive a report that spells it all out.

Have you heard of Joel Osteen or Joyce Meyer or Benny Hinn? I’m not on a witchhunt. I’m really not. But folks....you will never see that information from these people. Listen, I actually like Joel. I know a number of smart people who enjoy Joyce. Benny....God only knows what he’s up to. But folks, you really need to study this stuff. It all proves to you what the motives of the ministry are.

Well....my ministry constantly runs in the red. Do I want it to be that way? No, of course not. Without some sort of black ink, I’ll never be able to grow. At the same time, as a broke minister, I have gotten pretty creative about finding ways to reach people. I do it in all kinds of ways now. Even with college flyers like www.JesusFlyer.com. I suggest you check that one out if you have not already.

The point is that those who love Christ minister REGARDLESS of financial situation. I tell people all the time that even if I’m homeless on the street, I’ll still find a way to talk to folks about Jesus. That’s because he has left an indelible mark on my soul, heart, and mind. I cannot even go more than a few minutes without thinking about Him. How did I get this way? Well, I have a faithful family and I make good decisions. My good decisions have always lined up with what Christ speaks of. If that is not great proof of an awesome leader, I don’t know what is.

If any of you ever wants to know how much money I’ve lost in any given year, just let me know. I can’t provide line item detail, but I’m more than happy to share with you a yearly total from 2007 through till now. I have been an active minister since 1997, but only started keeping records a few years ago for tax purposes.

I love all of you! Let me know if you would like to talk.
